Discover the surprising effects of mango on diabetes

In the medical journal Nutrients, a group of authors from the Illinois Institute of Technology (USA) pointed out that mangoes can be a useful tool to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in overweight people, through some unexpected effects.

According to scientists, mangoes are a tropical fruit rich in nutrients and bioactive components that are beneficial to health.

However, the sweetness of mangoes has raised concerns that it can lead to weight gain and diabetes risk. But this argument has not been scientifically proven.

On the contrary, new research from the US shows that eating mangoes regularly can even improve inflammation and insulin sensitivity, supporting blood sugar control.

Not to mention, this tropical fruit can also help you lose weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference.

To prove it, the authors analyzed data from 48 obese or overweight people with an average age of 37.6.

All of them completed a 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test.

They were then randomly assigned to two groups: One group ate a cup of mango (about 160-165 grams) twice a day, and the other group ate a different diet food as a control at the same frequency.

After 4 weeks, fasting insulin levels in those who ate mango were significantly lower than in the control group, starting as early as week 1 of the experiment. Further testing of insulin-related indicators confirmed the clear effects of mango.

The experiment also showed that eating mango did not increase fasting blood sugar levels, as some people worry.

The authors concluded that regular consumption of this fruit may improve glucose regulation by increasing insulin sensitivity at the liver and pancreas level, thereby reducing the amount of insulin needed to maintain normal glucose levels.

This is an important factor in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

However, the researchers said that larger studies are needed to more fully assess the health effects of this fruit.
