Trump Administration Announces New Federal “Strike Force” to Combat Animal Cruelty

The Donald Trump administration has announced the creation of a new federal “strike force” aimed at strengthening efforts to combat animal cruelty across the United States.
According to officials, the initiative will place dedicated attorneys in every state to focus specifically on prosecuting cases involving severe abuse, illegal animal fighting, and organized trafficking of animals. The program is designed to improve coordination between federal agencies, local law enforcement, and animal welfare organizations.
“This strike force will send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated,” a senior administration spokesperson said. “By assigning specialized prosecutors nationwide, we can ensure these crimes are treated with the seriousness they deserve.”
The task force will work closely with the Department of Justice and the FBI to identify large-scale abuse operations, including dogfighting rings and illegal breeding networks. Supporters of the plan argue that tougher enforcement will deter future crimes and lead to stronger protections for vulnerable animals.
Animal welfare advocates welcomed the announcement, calling it a significant step forward. “Having dedicated federal attorneys focused on animal cruelty could dramatically improve prosecution rates,” said one advocacy group representative. “This could save countless animals from suffering.”
Critics, however, questioned whether the program would receive enough funding and staffing to make a real impact. Some also urged lawmakers to pair enforcement efforts with stronger education and prevention programs.
The administration stated that the strike force will begin operations within the coming months, with attorneys assigned to all 50 states and U.S. territories. Officials emphasized that the initiative reflects a growing recognition of animal cruelty as a serious crime that often overlaps with other forms of violence.
If successful, the program could mark one of the most coordinated national efforts to address animal abuse in U.S. history.
