The new daughter-in-law's reaction was unexpected
CHINA – On the wedding day, the groom’s mother cried uncontrollably. Those who witnessed it couldn’t tell if she was crying out of happiness or sadness.
In some rural areas of China, due to the imbalance of the male-to-female ratio, finding the ideal wife is not an easy task. Many people rely on matchmaking to find a partner.
A recent wedding in Anhui has caused a stir on social media because the groom is 33 years old, but the bride is 68.
In a video posted on social media, the groom is dressed in a black suit, holding the wedding dress for his bride. The bride, in a magnificent white gown, has her face carefully made up but still shows clear signs of aging, according to Sohu.
It should have been a joyous day, and the groom’s parents should have been very happy, but instead, they seemed saddened. The groom’s mother even covered her face and cried uncontrollably at her son’s wedding. Many witnesses truly didn’t understand whether she was crying from happiness or sadness.
The groom’s mother explained that she was crying out of concern for her son. At her daughter-in-law’s age, it would be difficult to have a grandchild for them. The couple had long wished for a grandchild to hold and care for.
Seeing her parents-in-law unhappy, the bride held their hands and comforted them: “Don’t worry, even though I’m old, my soul is still young, just like an 18-year-old. I may not have children, but won’t that make things easier for you? You won’t have to worry about carrying and taking care of a baby. I’m the same age as you, I can be your friend.”
After hearing this, the groom’s mother cried even harder. The groom’s father, standing beside her, was also choked up, feeling guilty about not having a grandchild to carry on their family line.
When the story was shared on social media, many people commented excitedly. The majority didn’t understand why such a young man would marry a 68-year-old woman. They suspected that the marriage might be for money.
"Why would a young man marry such an old bride? I really don’t get it. Perhaps the bride is very rich. Looking at the groom's parents, it’s really sad for them. They had so many hopes, but their son did the opposite. Getting married without having a grandchild for the grandparents to hold is so sad," one person commented.
A few others believed that in love, age doesn’t really matter. Either way, people should respect the choices of those involved and wish them well.
