Yes, the dog is allowed on the couch.
No, it doesn’t matter if it bothers anyone.
Bottom line: the dog lives here. Others don’t.
Có thể là hình ảnh về chó, phòng khách và văn bản cho biết 'DOGLIVES DOGLIVESHERE. LIVES HERE. DOG GUESTS, ADJUST GUESTS,ADJUSTACCORDINGLY. AC ACCORDI NGLY.'

I say that with a smile—but I mean it.

When you walk into my house, you’ll probably notice a few things right away. There might be a basket of toys in the corner. A water bowl that somehow migrates three inches from where it’s supposed to be. Maybe a faint layer of fur that reappears no matter how often I vacuum. And yes, you’ll see a dog curled up right in the middle of the couch like he personally signed the mortgage.

Because in a way, he did.

He was here for the lonely nights. He was here when the house felt too quiet. He was here long before any guest rang the doorbell with opinions about “house rules.” That couch has held more than just people—it’s held paws, sighs, and a head that rests gently on my knee after a long day.

So yes, he’s allowed up there.

Not because he’s spoiled. Not because I lack discipline. But because this is his home too.

He doesn’t understand the concept of “company manners.” He understands comfort. He understands that when he curls beside me, it means safety. It means belonging. When guests come over and wrinkle their noses or jokingly ask, “You let him on the furniture?” I don’t argue. I just shrug.

Of course I do.

He lives here.

He’s the one who waits by the door when I leave. The one who greets me like I’ve returned from war when I’ve only been gone twenty minutes. The one who senses when something’s wrong before I’ve said a word. If that means occasionally brushing off some fur before sitting down, I think we’ll survive.

There’s something deeply honest about a dog claiming a couch. It’s not entitlement—it’s trust. He doesn’t see it as “my furniture.” He sees it as “our space.” And honestly, I like that better.

Guests are temporary. They come, they visit, they leave. Some stay an hour. Some stay a weekend. But at the end of the day, it’s me and him. The lights go off, the house quiets down, and he hops back onto that couch—or the bed, if we’re being real—and sighs like the world finally makes sense again.

If someone is uncomfortable, I’ll gladly offer a lint roller. I’ll even make room on the other cushion. But what I won’t do is make him feel like he’s second in his own home.

Because he isn’t.

He’s not décor. He’s not a hobby. He’s not a temporary phase. He’s family.

And family gets the couch.

There’s a certain kind of peace in deciding what matters inside your own walls. For me, it’s kindness. It’s warmth. It’s the freedom to let a dog sprawl across the cushions without apology. The world outside can have its rules and its raised eyebrows.

In here, love wins.

So yes—the dog is allowed on the couch.
And no—it’s not up for debate.
