Strangers Step Up In The Best Way After Dog Is Caught Stealing Toy From Store
Days before Christmas, the Plaza Las Américas mall in Mérida, Mexico, was abuzz with holiday shoppers picking up a few last-minute presents. But they weren’t the only ones hoping not to leave empty-handed.
As shopper Ale Rivero was passing by a toy store in the mall, she noticed a random dog trot in.
“He grabbed a stuffed animal and tried to leave, but the employees tried to take it back, and he wouldn’t let it go,” Rivero told The Dodo.
A crowd soon formed to watch the unusual scene — and then something beautiful happened.
Rivero looked on with glee as the dog left the store with his newly-purchased toy, his joy at receiving the gift evident to all who saw him.
“It was so sweet to see him so happy,” Rivero said.
The strangers began pitching in money to pay for the toy the dog so clearly desired:
It’s unclear where the dog had come from, but Rivero believes he was a stray.
On that day, however, he felt the warmth of friendship.
The dog was still prancing about with his present as Rivero continued on her way to finish her own shopping, but the toy wasn’t the only gift he received this holiday season.
A short while later, after seeing footage of what had happened, a Good Samaritan named Allan visited the mall to find the pup to take him off the streets.
And that’s exactly what he did.
It’s been only a few days now, but the dog has since settled in nicely at home with Allan, who hopes to keep him safe forever — and with more than just one toy to call his own.
The pup, after all, has already stolen his heart.
“He’s a little mischievous,” Allan told The Dodo. “But he’s very affectionate.”
