A stray dog ​​stole my purse and ran off somewhere: my boyfriend and I ran after it, and while running after the dog, we ended up in a dark alley, where we saw something terrible 

My boyfriend and I were sitting on a bench in the park. It was a warm day, people were walking around, children were laughing. Everything seemed familiar and calm, and we were just enjoying the moment.

Suddenly, a dog ran right up to us. It stopped abruptly a couple of steps away, barked and stared at us with its wary eyes. At first, we thought it was just a stray looking for attention or food. My boyfriend made a hand gesture, chasing it away, but the dog didn’t go away.

It continued barking, sometimes coming closer, sometimes jumping back, as if it wanted to show something. I was already starting to get irritated by this endless barking, it was ringing in my ears and didn’t let me talk calmly.

Suddenly the dog came closer and put its front paws on my knees. I flinched and got scared. I asked the guy to take it away, but as soon as he tried, the dog jumped back, barked again and started circling around us.

We looked at each other – there was something strange in her behavior. She didn’t look aggressive, but she was clearly trying to get something across. She would sit on the ground, then immediately get up, take a couple of steps forward, look back at us and bark again.

And at that moment, something unexpected happened – the dog suddenly grabbed my purse, which was lying nearby on the bench, and took off.

I screamed. There was money, documents and a phone in the purse. The guy and I jumped up and ran after her. My heart was pounding – it seemed like she was just stealing. But the further we ran, the more it became clear: she wasn’t trying to run away from us forever. She looked over her shoulder, checked if we were running after her, and if we fell behind, she stopped for a second, barked loudly and ran forward again.

We chased her along the alleys, past surprised passers-by. Finally, she turned into a dark alley hidden between the trees, and there she stopped abruptly.

The dog carefully put the bag on the ground and sat down next to me, breathing heavily. I rushed to the bag, picked it up, but then my gaze fell on something terrible  This is why the dog brought us here and why she was acting so strangely. Continued in the first comment 

A little further – near a green garbage can on the ground lay a small puppy. He was whining quietly and barely moving, one paw was unnaturally twisted.

I froze, everything became clear. It was her puppy. Most likely, he was hit by a car or someone hit him. The dog was desperately looking for help, and came up with the only way to make people follow her – to steal something valuable.

We didn’t think twice. Having picked up the puppy, my boyfriend and I ran to the nearest veterinary clinic. All this time, the mother dog ran next to us, not lagging behind a single step, and looked at us with her intelligent eyes, full of anxiety and hope.

When the doctors accepted the puppy, she sat right by the door and waited. For the first time, we saw so much devotion and desperate love in the eyes of an animal.

At that moment, we realized – this was not just a dog, but a mother ready to do anything to save her baby
